The seminar on International investment in a Kazakhstan JV: Structuring the JV and resolving related disputes took place in Astana on 15 May 2013 and in Almaty on 17 May 2013 respectively. The seminar was organized by the British-Kazakh Law Association and The British Embassy in Astana.
The seminar comprised two major sessions: Structuring the Joint Venture (JV): key commercial and contractual terms and issues, and Anticipating and resolving JV disputes. Each session was followed by a case study. The seminar speakers mainly presented the legal overview of structuring the investment and JV from both the English law and Kazakhstan law perspectives. Key issues contained discussions on Due Diligence process, dispute resolution clauses, practical tips of interim remedies in support of arbitral proceedings, enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitration awards in Kazakhstan with a specific focus on business ethics issues.
While Sofiya Zhylkaidarova moderated the first session and led the case study, our Senior Lawyers Liza Zhumakhmetova and Rakhat Baisuanov presented at both sessions of this event. In particular, Liza spoke about the regulatory compliance and corporate matters when setting-up a JV in Kazakhstan, and Rakhat reported on the enforcement of the foreign arbitration awards and judgments in Kazakhstan.
