Pro bono work forms part of SIGNUM’s professional and social responsibility. We provide legal support to Kazakhstan and international non-profit organisations, foundations and socially significant initiatives and contribute to projects aimed at developing Kazakhstan’s legal and business environment.
Our pro bono work draws on expertise across SIGNUM’s practices to assist non-profit organisations with corporate and employment matters, taxation, regulatory issues and other legal matters arising from their activities.
A further area of our pro bono work involves the development of Kazakhstan’s legal and institutional framework. SIGNUM lawyers participate in working groups and legislative discussions, international legal research and initiatives aimed at improving corporate governance and the regulatory environment for business.
We view this work not only as an opportunity to provide professional legal support, but also as a contribution to a more sustainable, transparent and predictable legal environment in Kazakhstan.
Contributed to the World Bank legal survey for the Investing Across Borders 2010 report and related international database. SIGNUM’s contribution was recognised by Certificates of Appreciation from the World Bank.
Advised a US non-profit organisation focused on private enterprise development as part of its Kazakhstan corporate governance improvement project.
Provided legal advice to a US non-profit organisation on corporate and employment matters.
Advised an international foundation on taxation and the application of Kazakhstan tax legislation.
Advised non-profit organisations on establishment and operations in Kazakhstan, corporate governance, internal documentation and employment matters.
Participated in negotiations and working group discussions relating to the development of a new Tax Code of Kazakhstan.
Contributed to the drafting of regulations governing petroleum operations, including procurement rules applicable to the oil and gas sector.
Contributed legal expertise to discussions and initiatives aimed at improving regulation in selected sectors of the Kazakhstan economy and the broader business environment.
