On September 25, 2009 our lawyers participated in a roundtable discussion organized and managed by the Law Society of England and Wales. The audience mainly consisted of delegates from leading and mid-size law firms and solicitors, who is working or interested in working in Kazakhstan.

The main purpose of the event was to present the Kazakhstan legal system, the activities of Kazakhstani lawyers, as well as the opportunities for doing business and joint projects associated with Kazakhstan.

Sofiya Zhylkaidarova, Managing Partner, made a presentation on the Kazakhstani legal system, where she reported on legislation and the judicial system along with some basic issues of doing business in Kazakhstan. After other presentations Sofiya answered a number of questions, which were of interest for English colleagues; particularly, on the matters of recognition and enforcement of the arbitration decisions, various issues relating to court proceedings, taxation, recent practice in Mergers and Acquisition and many other questions. The question of state procurement also generated much interest.

Overall, SIGNUM’s participation in this event confirms the recognition and assessment of our company’s activity by the Law Society of England and Wales. We hope to continue the development of our excellent business relations and communications with international organizations and law firms.
