SIGNUM Lawyers Spoke at the «Kazakhstan Bar Association» Conference

The first conference of the Republican Public Association « Kazakhstan Bar Association» was held on 16th of May 2013. The conference was held in the form of interactive panel discussions. The questions were raised on the five most actual areas of law:

– Regulation of the legal services market;

– M&A transactions. Corporate aspect;

– Current issues of tax and antitrust laws of RK;

– Environmental issues in Kazakhstan: problems and prospects;

– Employment Law in Kazakhstan: the interest balance of employers and employees.

Sofia Zhylkaydarova was a moderator of the session on tax legislation, Abylkhair Nakipov took part in the session on environmental issues in Kazakhstan. Gaini Abdualiyeva made a presentation in the session on employment law in Kazakhstan.

At the end of the sessions the report-election conference took place, where members were able to sum up the KazBar performance, set the goals for the next year period and to replenish the ranks of KazBar Governing Council members.

KazBar was established in 2012. The purpose of the KazBar are:

– assistance in development of a constitutional state;

– assistance in regulation of the market of legal services;

– securing of fair competition;

– assisting lawyers in obtaining of legal knowledge and legal practice skill;

– participation in lawmaking process;

– introduction of civilized ethic rules of conduct for lawyers;

– creation of undisputable authority of legal profession in community aimed to support the status of the KazBar member.

The initiators of the KazBar were the heads of the leading law firms in Kazakhstan: Aequitas, Dechert, GRATA, Norton Rose, Olympex Advisers, Salans, Sayat Zholshi & Partners, SIGNUM Law Firm and the Group of Companies “Kazakhmys”.

Later KazBar intends to promote the country at international level, protect the interests of the legal community in general, and improve the legal services market in the country through the use examples of successful foreign practices of self-regulating professional legal associations (Bar Associations).
