New requirements for .KZ domain names

Amendments to the Uniform Requirements to information and communication technologies and information security came into force on  January 30, 2021.

One of the changes was the requirement to place an internet resource with a registered domain name .KZ and (or) .ҚAЗ on hardware and software complexes located in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Thereby,  such domain names shall be suspended in the Kazakhstani segment of the Internet in case of placement of an Internet resource on a hardware and software complex outside the Republic of Kazakhstan's territory. Further, if the violation is not eliminated within the prescribed period, the use of the domain name in the webspace of the Kazakhstani segment of the Internet will be terminated.

It also provides for administrative liability for violation of the Republic of Kazakhstan's legislation, committed in the form of breach of Uniform requirements in the field of information and communication technologies and information security.

So, the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides for fines as follows:

• for individuals in the amount of 10 MCI (monthly calculation indices),

• for officials, small businesses, or non-profit organizations - in the amount of 15 MCI,

• for medium-sized entities - in the amount of 30 MCI,

• for large business entities - in the amount of 100 MCI.

Repeated violation within a year after imposing an administrative penalty entails a fine for individuals in the amount of 20 MCI, for officials - in the amount of 50 MCI, for legal entities - 150 MCI.

1 MCI = about 7 US dollars.
