This year, given the COVID-19 pandemic, the third Astana International Financial Centre Court and IAC Moot competition was held Online. Six student teams participated from KIMEP University, M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, Suleiman Demirel University, Caspian University, Уральская Государственная Юридическая Академия, Baku State University (BSU).
This year the students had to present oral arguments to the judges on a legal problem that involved contracts and damages law on an appeal to a fictitious decision of the AIFC Court of First Instance.
All of the student teams participated in preliminary rounds of the Moot competition on 6 October 2020 and they were judged by Mr. Christopher Campbell-Holt, Registrar and Chief Executive of the AIFC Court and IAC, by Mr. Alexander Korobeinikov, Partner at Baker McKenzie, and Mr. Sergei Vataev, lawyer and arbitrator, and Ms. Sofiya Zhylkaidarova, Managing Partner at SIGNUM Law Firm. Two teams progressed to the Final based on their performance in the preliminary rounds.
